Accessibility Statement

1. Our commitment

FablePond is read by children and set up by adults, some of whom use screen readers, magnification, switch access, or a keyboard alone. A bedtime story that only some families can reach is not good enough, so accessibility is treated as part of the product rather than a compliance exercise.

We are working towards conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.

2. Conformance status

Partially conformant. This means most of WCAG 2.2 Level AA is met, but we have not completed the manual testing needed to claim full conformance. We would rather state that plainly than overclaim.

3. What we have tested

Every release is checked automatically against WCAG 2.2 Level AA using axe-core, across the marketing pages, account and reading screens, and all four policy pages — at phone, tablet and desktop widths, both signed in and signed out, and in bedtime mode. The current result is zero automated violations.

Specifically, we have verified that:

• Every interactive control is reachable and operable by keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator.
• Text meets the AA contrast minimum, in both the standard and bedtime palettes.
• Touch targets meet the 24×24 pixel minimum (WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.5.8).
• Turning a page in the reader is announced to screen readers, rather than changing silently.
• Page structure uses real headings and landmarks, with a skip-to-content link.
• Animation is suppressed for anyone whose system requests reduced motion.
• Illustrations are marked decorative, so a screen reader reads the story rather than describing the artwork.
• The reader can be operated by arrow keys and swipe, not by swipe alone.

4. Known limitations

Automated testing catches a meaningful share of accessibility problems, but not all of them. We know about the following gaps and are working on them:

• No manual screen-reader audit yet. We have not completed structured testing with VoiceOver, NVDA or JAWS. Some screen-reader announcements may be less clear than intended. [COUNSEL: confirm the target date stated publicly.]
• The iOS app has not been assessed. This statement covers the FablePond website only. The iPhone and iPad app will be assessed separately before it is released publicly.
• Narration is a paid feature. Audio narration of stories is part of the Premium and Family plans. Story text is fully readable by screen readers on every plan, including the free tier, so narration is an enhancement rather than the only route to the content.
• Illustrations have no descriptive alternative text. Story artwork is treated as decorative and hidden from screen readers, because the story text carries the meaning. We are considering generated image descriptions.
• Zoom and reflow above 200% have not been formally verified.

5. Tell us about a barrier

If any part of FablePond is difficult or impossible for you to use, please tell us — including which page, what you were trying to do, and what assistive technology you use, if any.

We aim to acknowledge within 5 business days and to tell you what we intend to do and by when. If something blocks you from reading a story tonight, say so and we will treat it urgently.

6. Enforcement

This statement is made in connection with the European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882) and equivalent accessibility law in the other markets we serve.

7. How this statement was prepared

Prepared on 2 September 2026 following a self-evaluation of the FablePond website, combining automated WCAG 2.2 Level AA testing with manual review of keyboard navigation, colour contrast and screen-reader semantics. It is reviewed whenever we make a significant change, and at least annually.
