Milo had a rocket-shaped bed and stars stuck on his ceiling. Every night he wished on the brightest one, hoping that one day he'd zoom past the moon and wave to the stars zooming by too.
One night, his toy rocket gave a wobbly wiggle and a sparkly hum. "Beep-boop!" it chimed. "Climb aboard, Milo! Tonight, we fly for real!" Milo blinked twice, grinned wide, and hopped right in, pajamas and all.
Whoosh! Up through the window they zoomed, past chimneys, clouds, and a sleepy owl. The rocket rattled and shook a little, but Milo just laughed. "Faster, faster!" he cheered, holding tight to the controls.
Soon the sky turned deep purple and speckled with twinkling lights. Milo pressed his nose to the window. "We're really in space!" he whispered, watching Earth shrink into a blue-green marble below.
A friendly comet zipped by, trailing sparkles like a shooting scarf. "Race you to Saturn!" it called. Milo giggled and steered his rocket right alongside, dodging fluffy space-dust clouds along the way.
They zoomed past Saturn's rings, which spun like giant hula hoops made of ice and stone. Milo waved. The rings sparkled back, as if waving too, and Milo felt as light as a feather.
Suddenly, the rocket gave a little hiccup. Beep-boop-BONK! "Oh no," said Milo, "are we stuck?" The rocket had bumped gently into a floating cluster of moon rocks and stopped, spinning slowly in the quiet dark.
Milo took a deep breath. He remembered something from his space books: "Even astronauts get stuck sometimes—you just have to think it through." So he looked at the rocks and gave them a gentle push.
The rocks tumbled apart like giant marbles, and the rocket wiggled free! "Ta-da!" cheered Milo, spinning in a happy circle. The rocket beeped proudly, as if to say, "Well done, little astronaut!"
At last, they landed softly on the moon's silvery surface. Milo hopped out in big, bouncy moon-steps, leaving footprints in the dust. He picked up a smooth moon pebble to keep forever.
From the moon, Earth looked like a cozy nightlight, glowing blue in the dark. "Time to go home," whispered the rocket kindly. Milo nodded, climbed in, and they floated gently back through the stars.
Milo landed softly back in his rocket-shaped bed, moon pebble tucked in his hand. "Goodnight, stars," he yawned, smiling at his ceiling. And somewhere far away, the stars twinkled back, wishing him sweet dreams too.
