Milo loved the hush of night, when the sky turned soft and blue. But one evening, one small star flickered weakly, dimmer than it knew how to be. 'Are you alright, little star?' Milo whispered from his window, tucked snug in his cloud-soft pajamas.
The star sighed, 'I'm tired of shining, no one seems to see. The moon gets all the noticing, but nobody notices me.' Milo thought a moment, then smiled a sleepy smile. 'I see you,' he said softly. 'You make my whole night worthwhile.'
The star blinked, surprised and warm. 'You really see me, small and true?' Milo nodded, climbing into bed with his favorite blanket, soft and blue. 'Being kind isn't loud,' he yawned, 'it's just noticing you.'
Outside, the wind grew gentle, humming a lullaby tune. It rustled through curtains, dancing with the light of the moon. Milo closed his eyes just slightly, listening to night's soft song, while the little star grew braver, glowing all night long.
'Thank you, Milo,' whispered the star, 'for your kindness, soft and slow. Now I shine a little brighter, and my glow begins to grow.' Milo giggled sleepily, 'That's what kindness always does— it makes tired things feel better, just because.'
The star called softly to its neighbors, 'Wake up, sleepy specks of light! Someone kind has noticed us — let's shine together tonight.' One by one the stars grew brighter, twinkling in a warm array, painting Milo's ceiling softly with a friendly, starry display.
Milo watched the starlight dancing, swirling slow across his wall. 'Kindness travels far,' he murmured, 'even to the stars, so small.' His eyelids grew heavier, his breathing slow and deep, as the whole sky hummed him gently, softly, into sleep.
Now the little star shines nightly, never dim, never alone, for kindness shared at bedtime finds its way to every home. And if you look outside your window when the sky turns soft and deep, you'll find that little star still glowing — watching over you asleep.
